During September and October, the visual artist Mariia Nekrasova (b. 1987) from Ukraine has been residing at the Art Factory artist residency. Nekrasova came to Porvoo through the Artists at Risk network.
Nekrasova’s residency period has been very productive. She primarily paints outdoors. Over the past months, the residents of Porvoo may have seen her sketching and painting around the city.
In her works, Nekrasova has utilized classic Porvoo motifs, such as views of old Porvoo and the Empire-style districts, as well as the surrounding park areas. She has succeeded in finding new ways to depict motifs that have long inspired visual artists who have visited and lived in Porvoo. There are only a few similar urban environments in Finland that have inspired artists during the last few hundred years.
Mariia Nekrasova graduated from the Kharkiv Art Academy in 2012. Her art has mainly been exhibited in solo exhibitions around Ukraine and in some group exhibitions outside Ukraine. Alongside her own artistic work, she has taught painting for two years in Ningbo, China. Nekrasova came to Finland through the international network Artists at Risk.
